Streptococcus species are human pathogenic, gram positive, chain-forming bacteria. For newborn, group B streptococcus species can be highly pathogenic. With infection during labour (1-5%) newborn may develop severe systemic illness, associated with a mortality of up to 80%. Therefore testing for streptococcus group B presence is recommended to all pregnant women in the last months of their pregnany. This streptococcus group B antigen test is a fast and reliable chromatographic immunoassy for the qualitative detection of group B antigen presence from (cervical / vaginal) swabs.
