Streptococcus species group A (i.e. Strept. pyogenes) can cause serious infections, between them pharyngitis, infections of the airways, impetigo, endokarditis, meningitis, puerperal sepsis and arthritis. If these infections are not treated early on and properly, they may lead to longterm disease such as rheumatic fever and pertonsillar chronic inflammation. The combination of these 4 clinical symptoms point to a potential strep A infection: sore throat, fever > 37°C, coated tonsils, and swallen anterior cervical lymphatic nodes. Most infections take place in children. This test is a fast and reliable chromatographic immunoassay for the qualitativ confirmation of Strep A antigen from (throat) swabs.
