McFarland is the unit of opacity of (bacteria) solutions.
McFarland standards are used as reference materials to achieve levels of comparable opacity. They are recommended in most protocols / methods, in particular with micro titer plates / micro dilution procedures. As a result, inocculation with comparable amounts of bacteria leads to better quality in the microbiological lab, in particular vor the AST (antibiotic susceptibility test).
We recommend the use of the McFarland standards in combination with a densitometer such as MD5728.
