To save the life of patients in sudden cardiac arrest, effective and uninterrupted chest compressions are required . Performing good manual chest compressions is difficult and highly dependent on the skill of the performer. The quality of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) varies and changes with each compression. Proper depth of chest compressions during CPR is essential to ensure adequate blood flow to oxygenate the heart and brain. The right number of compressions during CPR is another important factor in achieving a return to spontaneous circulation and survival with good neurological function. Because the stiffness of the chest wall can vary greatly from patient to patient, some patients require significantly higher compressions to achieve the same depth of compression. In addition to depth, the compression to rebound ratio is also important for effective CPR.
Nihon Kohden's CPR Assist assists in the delivery and maintenance of effective CPR. It is also a good training tool for emergency teams to improve and maintain CPR skills when paired with a manikin.

- CPR visual and audio assessment: CPR provides LED display and Audible alert of rate and depth of chest compressions.
- Assessment of CPR quality: CPR Assist can communicate with a PC via Bluetooth. Waveforms and readings stored on the device during CPR can later be viewed and evaluated in report format using Defibrillator Report Viewer software (QP-551VK).
- Control the quality of CPR: CPR Assist can communicate via Bluetooth with a Nihon Kohden defibrillator (Cardiolife EMS or AED Series-21XX). The CPR waveform and readings can be viewed in real time on the defibrillator's display along with other parameters such as ECG, SpO2, CO2, and NIBP.
