The LensHooke® X1 PRO is an artificial intelligence (AI) supported analyzer. This technique is also known as Computer Assisted Sperm Analysis or CASA.
The software used is regularly updated, and thus enables analysis to be state-of-the-art. Status May 2022: WHO 6.0 compliant.
In addition to concentration, the analyzer measures morphology and motility (PR = progressive motile, NP = non-progressively motile, IM = immotile) other quality parameters from the so-called CASA assessment, which are described in more detail below:

  • VSL (Velocity straight line) describes the shortest distance between the start and end point of the sperm during the measurement divided by the duration of the measurement in µm/s. The sperm can in turn be classified based on their velocity (VSL Distribution).
  • VCL (Velocity curvilinear) is the curvilinear velocity, i.e. the total distance traveled by the sperm divided by the duration of the measurement in µm/s.
  • VAP (Velocity average path) is the distance traveled by the sperm divided by the duration of the measurement on a smoothed track in µm/s. The sperm can in turn be classified based on their speed (VAP Distribution).
  • LIN (Linearity) indicates the linearity of the distance actually covered, LIN = VSL/VCL x 100 in %.
  • STR (Straightness) indicates the straightness of the average path, STR = VSL/VAP x 100 in %. The sperm can in turn be classified based on their speed (STR Distribution).
  • WOB (wobble) describes the fluctuation of the curvilinear distance around the mean distance, WOB = VAP/VCL x 100 in %.
  • ALH (amplitude of lateral head displacement) describes the average lateral head deflection in µm along its averaged trajectory. The sperm can in turn be classified based on their speed (ALH Distribution).
  • BCF (Beat cross frequency) indicates the frequency of the lateral oscillatory movements of the sperm head around the middle track in Hz.
