The KariesScreenTest is a reliable in vitro diagnostik to determine a patient`s individual risk to develop caries. It should be part of the regular prophylaxis and works by identifying acid-forming cariogenic bacteria such as streptococcus mutans or lactobacillus species on highly selective growth media. The opportunistic identification of Candida species mounts an additional risk factor. In addition, the KariesScreenTest +P test system contains the saliva buffering test, examining the ability of the saliva to buffer acids for the maintenance of a dentin-friendly micro-environment.
